The Portugal Golden Visa Program – Financing Options

Summary Of The Program

A Golden Residence Permit for Investment was introduced by Portugal in October 2012, which has all the benefits of a Schengen Visa, including free movement throughout the 27 Schengen countries in Europe. Upon acquiring a Golden Visa, holders receive residency permits and Portuguese citizenship (after five years of residence), as well as advantageous periods of stay in Portugal.

To be eligible, individuals must meet one of the following criteria:
• Invest in a Venture Capital Fund, start a business and generate employment opportunities in Portugal.
• Inject funds into an existing Portuguese enterprise.
• Make a charitable contribution towards preserving national heritage in Portugal.
• Or support research and development initiatives in the country.

Requirements:

  • An applicant must possess a valid passport and reside legally in the country.
  • Applicants must not be citizens of the European Union or Russia (any other nationality is acceptable).
  • The applicant must be at least 18 years old (there is no maximum age).

Dependents include:

  • A -  spouse.
    B - Children under the age of 18.
    C - Dependent, unmarried children under 26 who are full-time students.
    D - Parents over 65 who are dependent on the applicant.
  • An applicant must pass a security background check and not have a criminal record.
  • Applicants must make a €500,000 investment in a Portuguese venture capital fund over a 10-year period (or until they obtain citizenship). The agent offers a walk-away financing package for €168,000.

Golden Visa benefits

❖ After completing all requirements and submitting the file to the government, the residency card will be issued within 9-11 months.
❖ The walk-away price offered by the agent is €168,000 (which includes all document processing fees, initial legal fees, and venture capital investment).
❖ As a result, each applicant, his/her spouse, and dependents are entitled to reside, work, and attend school in Portugal, as well as to travel freely within the Schengen area.
❖ Portugal has a high quality of life, including modern business and medical facilities, shopping, natural beauty, sports, cultural events, and a warm climate.
❖ There is no age restriction, no minimum education requirement, no business experience requirement, no strict net worth requirement, no medical check, and no source of funds requirement.
❖ For residency, there is no interview (for citizenship, there is an interview).
❖ Worldwide income is not taxed.
❖ A basic level of Portuguese will be required for citizenship, but there is no language requirement for residency.
❖ There is a minimal residency requirement (1 week per year).

Applicants can apply for citizenship after five years of residency if they meet the following requirements:

❖ No outstanding tax payments in Portugal.
❖ A clean criminal record is required.
❖ Attend an interview.
❖ A basic Portuguese language test must be passed.
